AERON has developed a device to purify the air around individuals experiencing ambient air pollution from vehicle and factory emissions. The unique design of the compact personal air purifier came forth as a collaboration between AERON Executive Chairman Patrick Kosar, AVP of Design Christopher Young, and AVP of Engineering and Manufacturing Patrick Guerin.
The device will fit in one hand and has been designed to be held at upper chest level. Ambient air is drafted into the bottom of the device, purified, and channeled through the top vents for inhalation. The wearable device, designed to be the size of an average cell phone, is portable and can be attached to a lanyard for hands-free operation.
“The compact air purifier can help users overcome the detrimental effects of poor air quality by generating a “dome” of clear air around the user’s head,” said AERON AVP of Design Chris Young. Young notes that air pollution is not always visible. “It’s not just the air you see that is harmful; it’s also what’s in the air you cannot see.”
Patrick Guerin said further device development is underway, but the patent approval protects the product’s design. AERON’s objective is to give the compact air purifier the technology to filter out 99.5 percent of the particulate matter and VOCs, volatile organic compounds, in those polluting sources.
AERON was founded in 1996 by business partners Monica Hadley and Jeffrey Smith, who invented an innovative fragrance diffuser to operate from a vehicle’s 12-volt outlet. Using essential oils as its fragrance load, the unique product established a new trend in the scent diffusion industry: aromatherapy while driving and was the subject of the company’s first two patents, now expired.
After launching the car aromatherapy invention in multiple outlets, AERON moved into making original fragrance diffusers for major retail customers in the consumer lifestyles market.
The Compact Personal Air Purifier joins the company’s growing portfolio of intellectual property for products marketed under two brands AERON Drive Time®, a line of fragrance diffusers for travel and in-vehicle use, and Belle Aroma®, a boutique line of fragrance diffusers for home, car, office, and travel.
Both brands feature a variety of operation applications, such as USB-powered fragrance diffusers that can transition between auto and home.
